Learning
Outline
Mathematics and Physics is designed for 13–15-year-olds who want to explore how numbers and natural laws help us understand the universe. Students will build both theoretical and practical skills as they explore topics such as algebra, calculus, mechanics, electronics, astrophysics, and particle physics. They’ll be encouraged to think critically, question assumptions, and apply mathematical and scientific methods to solve real-world problems. We don’t follow a fixed curriculum—our tutors adapt the course to match the group’s interests, making learning both challenging and rewarding. The course also includes a masterclass focused on key life skills like teamwork and debating, along with a daily reflection activity to help students review and consolidate their learning.
Teaching methodology
Learning in a small group (no more than 8 students and often fewer) means that you get quality time with your teacher and ask as many questions as you like! Through interactive learning, our teachers will guide you through new concepts and assign you practice tasks to build your knowledge and skills. You will also have an opportunity for group work, independent research, and homework assignments to be discussed in class. Small classes mean everyone gets to have their say, and students learn from debating with one another, as well as from their tutor.
The city of Oxford, with nearly 1,000 years of academic history, has been associated with some of the greatest scientific minds, from Stephen Hawking to Roger Penrose. As part of the 13–15 Mathematics and Physics programme, your child will live in the heart of a city shaped by centuries of discovery and innovation. The city of Oxford provides an inspiring backdrop, with its historic colleges, rich academic traditions, and reputation for scientific achievement.
Accommodation is available in single or twin rooms, depending on the tier chosen. Plus students can choose single or twin, Superior guarantees an ensuite, and Premier provides concierge-selected rooms. All options include shared spaces and on-course staff for support.
Meals are provided on a full-board basis, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Students eat in the college dining hall or at local restaurants. All dietary requirements are catered for.
The Experience
Mathematics and Physics help us understand the world — from the patterns in nature to the forces that shape the universe. On this engaging course, curious learners explore big ideas through hands-on challenges, experiments, and problem-solving that makes every discovery feel exciting and achievable. It’s a chance to build confidence with new concepts, share ideas with peers, and see how science and maths connect to real-life innovation and future possibilities.
Each weekday includes two interactive morning lessons in small groups of no more than 8 students, ensuring plenty of individual support and space to ask questions. Afternoons alternate between masterclasses, directed study, and subject-linked excursions, helping students apply what they learn in real-world contexts. Evenings offer structured activities and supervised downtime — from college tours to fun social events — giving students the opportunity to experience Oxford’s academic atmosphere in a safe, inspiring environment. By the end of the week, they’ll not only know more — they’ll think more boldly too.
